You will run out of room in your inventory with "necessary" items. It's a free game with item shop which means that stuff is done intentionally to draw up business. If the host has a bad connection or computer, the game becomes a slideshow. It's a nice time waster but can get boring quick unless you have someone to run with.ġ) Lag. You won't be knocking walls over or bringing buildings down on top of enemies unless it was scripted to do so. There are things like stone pillars and big wooden girder supports, but they have no effect when you bring them down, other than giving you chunks to pick up. The environments aren't fully destructible, there are just lots of destructible elements in the scenery, like the typical barrels, pots, chests, and assorted wooden stuff. I'm too old to care about my avatar looking cooler than the rest, so I definitely won't be paying for micro-trans stuff, but I can definitely see myself hopping on when I feel like flashily whacking on baddies in a sort of Final Fantasy environment for free. And the voice acting in at least the opening tutorial sequence you play through is shockingly good for a pseudo-free game. The action, graphics, and effects feel like console, where the menus and RPG elements feel like PC. Basically, a co-op PvE button-masher hack-n-slash with instant travel between typical RPG towns and instanced mission areas (no overworld). It feels sort of like an MMO Soul Calibur. Anyone else playing? If I had to pay for it, it would be a definite pass, but as a free game, it's actually pretty decent (and surprisingly compelling) fun. The kicker though, is that after OB, the game will be F2P, as it has been in Korea. Due to the use of the Source engine, the environments themselves are all fully destructible, which means that when you're fighting a 15 foot boss swinging a giant hammer, it actually feels like a dangerous prospect. The action itself is what makes the game enjoyable, though I could see it becoming repetitive. Unfortunately, the game is only supported in the US and Canada, so our European friends get the short end of the stick. Truthfully, the character customization is poor, and there are only two classes (a dual-wielding male and a sword and board female) though a third (mage) has been released in the game's original Korean, and is speculated to be arriving on US shores in the next couple of weeks. It's built using the Source engine, so the graphics are passable. #Vindictus private server taken down series#The game itself seems to take place in a series of hub cities, each of which has portals (in the form of boats/whatever) that take you to similarly styled, but slightly random, dungeons. It bills itself as an MMO, but that's probably misleading. RPS ran a short story last week about a game that's gone into open beta Vindictus.
